Some of the most spectacular views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Bras d’Or Lakes are to be found here. Thick forests, grassy fields, mist-shrouded hills and rocky coastline make up our diverse landscape. Historic sites, excellent fishing on lakes and rivers, intimate restaurants and cozy accommodations make Cape Breton’s Heritage Coast one of the most delightful spots to spend your vacation on Cape Breton Island.
The culture and heritage of the Heritage Coast make it unique to Cape Breton Island. Originally the exclusive domain of the Mi’kmaq, the region came to be settled by Acadians as well as Irish and Scottish. As early as the 16th century, fishermen from France sailed to the shores of Isle Madame, established huts in the spring and returned home in the fall.
Here, the pace is slower. We offer some of the cleanest air, richest history, and most scenic coastal trails anywhere in the world. Many traditions have been passed down through the years, such as language, lively music and cuisine.
Linger a while on Cape Breton’s Heritage Coast …travelling our coast will make all the difference.
